Who is Susan Dillon?

Hello, my name is Susan Dillon and I began working with fiber in 1999 (although I have identified as a "maker" all of my life), having discovered the world of art quilting due to a rained-out hiking trip & my mother's search for a restroom... it's a long story. I have since been explored quilting and fiber arts in two and three dimensions, with art dolls and sculptural assemblages (with a few years dedicated to millinery which, in its essence, is sculptural fiber art).

I typically combine fabric, fibers, stitch and found objects into 2d & 3d pieces, as well as wearable art and even street art, examining the connection and interaction between emotion and the physical world. Much of my work includes elements of "feminine' iconography; dresses, houses, nests & birds are all prominent in many of my pieces and series.

Lately, I have been very interested in the concept of colonization and encrustation; exploring the life cycle of memories and how it populates mind using hand embroidery along with natural & man made found object to create assemblages.  I can’t wait to see where this concept takes me!
