Who is Ruth Chandler?
I am Ruth Chandler, co-author of the best selling book Fabric Embellishing the Basics and Beyond. In March 2014 my book Modern Hand Stitching was released. I grew up in Japan and my art and needlework has a distinct Japanese influence. I love the hand stitching of sashiko and the Japanese style of indigo dying. I have taken these traditional techniques into the art quilt world and have enjoyed adding a new twist to an ancient art form. Recently I have been exploring the Japanese art form Boro. Boro literally means tattered rags. It is a great way for me to combine my love of stitching, indigo, and the Japanese style.
