Featured Quilt - The Memory of an Elephant

Charlie by Bonnie Creel features a stunning portrait of an elephant that was on display at Road to California 2023 as part of the Portrait category. As to her process in making the quilt, Bonnie says, "I made a freezer paper template and then hand painted fabric for the head and trunk. I used both hand dyed and Kaffe fabric for the ears. I raw edge appliqued the entire elephant and then thread painted the entire elephant using many colors of thread. I then free motion quilted the background."

And Here's The Real "Scribe Winery"

Monday's Featured Quilt was incorrectly labeled as Scribe Winery by Mimi Ghauri-Young when in fact it was Fancy Steps by Tami Graeber. Now, thanks to Mimi reaching out and providing a stunning photo of her quilt, we have the real Scribe Winery to share with you, which was also on display at Road to California 2023.

Mimi had this to say when it came to the inspiration for her quilt. "The Mackintosh Hacienda in Sonoma County, constructed in 1858-1910, was converted to Scribe Winery in 2007. This quilt was designed to support the Sonoma Historical Society. This is my first attempt at drafting and creating an architectural building in fabric."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Making It Over The Line

"Crossing The Line" by Sherri Lipman McCauley

Crossing The Line started with Sherri taking a piece of upholstery fabric and extrapolating the design, pulling it out into an improv collection of fabrics until she achieved the design she was going for.
