Who is Teresa Coates?
Hi there! I’m Teresa, a maker and writer with a penchant for sewing, quilting, teaching, and adventure.
I was lucky enough to have traveled to Vietnam with my children to volunteer in orphanages in 2007 and since then I’ve continued to pursue opportunities to help out those children. This has included fundraising campaigns and sewing drives in 2009, 2012 and 2014.
I stumbled into the quilting industry in 2011, after decades of sewing anything and everything, when I joined the crew at The Fabric Shop Network and later become the editor of WebCents magazine, from its inception until mid-2013 when I left to work for Robert Kaufman Fabrics in Los Angeles, California. As their Media Relations Specialist I was able to combine my love of fabrics, sewing, blogging, social media marketing and publishing.
For nearly two years I worked at Fabric Depot as the social media coordinator, as well as sewing samples, arranging guest instructors, teaching garment sewing and quilt making, and creating patterns and tutorials.
These days I’m working for Shannon Fabrics in Los Angeles, California as the Event and Education Coordinator, planning and teaching at educational events nationwide in addition to managing educational and material support for small quilt shops and fabrics stores.
I also write and design my own patterns for both Crinkle Dreams and national magazines.
My quilts and sewing projects have appeared in Bust, Quilty, Stitch, Quiltmakers’ 100 Quilt Blocks, Generation Q and American Quilt Retailer and I have spoken at both local and national conventions about topics as varied as social media marketing for quilt shop owners, divorced mothers and shared housing.
I am available for quilt guild presentations, lectures and sewing/quilting workshops. If you think we’d work well together, I’d love to hear from you!
