Who is Rachaeldaisy?
A lifelong interest in colour and design found Rachaeldaisy delving into various crafts as a child, then led to working as a creative florist for 20 years. She discovered patchwork and quilting in the early 2000’s, and with all the possibilities and beautiful fabrics to play with, that was it, she was hooked!
Whilst honouring the tradition of quilting Rachaeldaisy like to find fresh ways and try new techniques to interpret conventional designs. She is known for using many 3D elements in her work such as folder fabric, Yo-Yos, Prairie Points, wool felt, appliqued and pieced denim, doilies and trims. Words often used to describe her style are whimsical, innovative and happy.
Rachaeldaisy's quilts have been honoured with many awards, including Best in Show/Best in NSW at the Sydney Quilt Show 2016, Best in Show in 2015 and then again in 2016 at the Australian Modern Quilt Show. Best Use Of Colour at the Sydney Quilt Show 2017, Most Innovative at Dare to Differ 2017, and thrilled to have received a 2nd Place Award at the International Quilt Festival 2018, Houston. Her quilts have also been exhibited and won prizes in fine art exhibitions. Many of her quilts have been published in magazines and books both nationally and internationally.
Rachaeldaisy has a beautiful, colourful book called “Whizz Bang, Adventures in Folded Fabric”, published with Quiltmania, As the name suggests it focuses on the techniques using blocks with folded fabric such as the Pine Burr. There are different ways of making the blocks plus15 different quilt projects to inspire readers.
When Rachaeldaisy isn't travelling to teach she's at home in the Blue Mountains, an hour west of Sydney, Australia, with a garden full of colourful, noisy native birds, and her husband Mr Daisy.
Rachaeldaisy has become synonymous with bold, colourful, eye popping quilts. and it’s no wonder after 20 years of being a florist experimenting and mastering colour and form. Whilst honouring the tradition of quilting she continues to find fresh ways and new techniques to interpret conventional designs. Her use of 3D elements such as folded and gathered fabric techniques, yoyo puffs, prairie points, wool felt, appliqued and piece denim create beautifully unique textured work.
Her fresh interpretation of the art of quilting has seen her quilts awarded many prizes including Best in Show at both the 2015 and 2016 Australian Modern Quilt Show, Best in Show & Best in NSW at the 2016 Sydney Quilt Show. Most Innovative at 2017 Dare to Differ Contemporary Textiles Exhibition, 2017 Best Use of Colour Sydney Quilt Show. In 2018 her work was shown on the catwalks of Paris in collaboration with dynamic duo Romance Was Born. Rachaeldaisy’s quilts have been exhibited in quilt shows and galleries and featured in many publications both nationally and internationally.”
