Who is Cristy Fincher?
Cristy Fincher is the daughter of Master Quilter, Sharon Schamber. Cristy was born with a love for all things sewing, in her DNA. Growing up in Sharon’s couture wedding gown factory gave Cristy a lifetime of education about patterns, grain lines, production, fitting dresses, and the science of how fabric behaves, all by the age of 10. She loved spending time in her mom’s studio, and would wind bobbins as Sharon was sewing on her industrial Juki. Cristy’s teen years were spent working in Sharon’s factory, assisting with production, and sneaking in time to play with fabric and sew.
Quilting goes back generations in Cristy’s family. Quilts were used until seams popped and the batting began to peek through the frayed edges of fabric. In 1994, Cristy and Sharon made their first quilt together, after buying pre-printed panels from a local fabric store. Sharon went on to become a trail-blazer in the quilting world, as Cristy became a school teacher. After Cristy was married, and began her own family, her passion for quilting grew. 10 years ago, she started her business, Purple Daisies, LLC, where she focuses on sewing and quilting education. In 2007, Cristy and Sharon co-authored Piece-by-Piece: Machine Applique, which features many of Cristy’s original designs. Teaching is where Cristy’s heart truly lies. She has spent her lifetime learning about all aspects of sewing and quilting from her amazing mom. Now, Cristy is passing on Sharon’s legacy of sewing and quilting techniques through her shop Purple Daisies, LLC, teaching locally, nationally, by sharing her own tutorials on her blog Sew Much Like Mom, and as a Craftsy instructor.
