"The Texas Quilt Museum goes big and bold right out of the gate in 2024 with three phenomenal exhibits: Kaffe Fassett: 85 & Fabulous, International Quilt Festival Prizewinners 2023, and Prism Play: A Full Spectrum of Art Quilts. They will be on display in the Museum’s three galleries from January 11 - April 27, 2024.

Kaffe Fassett is one of the world’s most celebrated and influential artists and designers of all time. He’s put his unique touch and style on a bevy of decorative arts from quilting and patchwork to needlepoint, painting, and even ceramics.

Kaffe Fassett: 85 & Fabulous reflects his influence as a leading textile designer and practitioner of contemporary crafts. The 30 quilts on display are made by Kaffe and his friends, Liza Prior Lucy and Kim McLean.

Museum curator Vicki Mangum says “You will stand in awe when you arrive for this exhibit. It’s fabulous to see Kaffe’s work together in one gallery.” This exhibit is sponsored by FreeSpirit Fabrics.

Each year, the International Quilt Festival in Houston hosts the art form’s most prestigious Judged Show, featuring entries by quilters from the well-known to the newly skilled. These talented artists from all over the world submit their work to compete for cash prizes in themed categories.

A total of 18 winners from last year’s event will be on display in the exhibit International Quilt Festival Prizewinners 2023. The quilts are all outstanding and will have museumgoers studying each for their beauty, ingenuity, and techniques.

“We are very lucky this year, we can include the Handi Quilter Best of Show in the Museum exhibit. Most often, the Best of Show is already committed to other venues during this time frame,” Mangum says. This exhibit is sponsored by the Lucille Gaebler Klein Fund.

And finally, the Studio Art Quilt Associates mission to promote and advance the cause of art quilting and that genre’s creative lights. That’s more than evident in this themed collection of members’ works, Prism Play: A Full Spectrum of Art Quilts.

This unique and optically bold exhibit allows gallery visitors to view a vibrant spectrum of color almost as though they were standing inside a prism. The exhibition includes 62 art quilts representing the work of 46 SAQA Northern California/Northern Nevada chapter artists.

“I love this approach to organizing an exhibit. The quilts are all the same size. And because this exhibit is a reflection of the color wheel, the exhibit flows from one quilt to another,” Mangum says. This exhibit is partially sponsored by Reynolds & Associates, PLLC.

The Texas Quilt Museum is located at 140 W. Colorado St., La Grange, Texas 78945. Hours are 10 AM - 4 PM Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. For more information, visit www.TexasQuiltMuseum.org.
