The Making of Traditional Balinese Handwoven Ikat Fabric

During her show, Gale Carson showcased a variety of unique fabrics from around the world. One of those is Bali Ikat, a black fabric that was so stunning Ricky had to buy some for himself. See how this amazing fabric is made and produced in this informative video.

Video Description: "The traditional process of making this extraordinary fabric is showcased. We produce the fabric in our village workshop in Gianyar, Bali. Our artisan, who work mostly part time from home, work using methods virtually unchanged over the decades. We also empower our women artisan by enabling them to work at a flexible pace, while still being able to attend to their other responsibilities at home."

See Gale talk about other unique fabrics in How to Work with One-Of-A-Kind Fabrics Including Thai Silk with Gale Carson.

This video was an eye opener! Many quilters, such as myself, do not realize how work intensive the process of making Ikat fabrics really is. Astonishing! The quality is outstanding and makes me appreciate this hand made artwork.
