Featured Quilt - Second Place Minimalist Design at QuiltCon 2025

Passage no. 7 is not the first quilt in Carson Converse's Passage series that we have featured, that would be Passage no. 5 from QuiltCon 2022, but it is the first that we have featured to win an award. Carson's quilt took home Second Place - Minimalist Design (Sponsored by Lo & Behold Stitchery) at QuiltCon 2025. Here's what Carson had to say about working on the series as a whole. "The Passage series is a personal meditation on time - reflections on manufactured urgency, aging, and our relative insignificance. In my art practice, I am chasing the sense of awe and calm associated with expanded perspectives - like gazing at the ocean or viewing the earth from the sky. I use repetition, order, visual complexity, and beauty in a futile attempt to translate the sublime into cloth."

Take a look at both Passage quilts and see how the design has evolved from the fifth to the seventh quilt. What's stayed the same, amazing matchstick quilting, and what's changed, such as the fabric choices.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Ravishing in "RED"

"RED" by Jane LaFazio

Jane says of her quilt, RED, "I love red, always have. It’s my first color choice. Always. I’m attracted to any product that comes in red. I have an ongoing affinity for anything red. As I prepared to make this quilt, I gathered roving, burlap, tulle, cheese cloth and yarn, in every shade of red and machine needle felted them to create my own, completely original red material to work from."
