Even though it's September, that doesn't mean it's too late to start the 2022 Block Of the Month, Garden Party Down Under. You can still download all of the year's patterns up to now and get the rest of them when they become available. And don't forget all the resources available to you too, like Barbara Black's helpful tips and tricks that she puts out for every new month's set of patterns. Here are the tips for Month 9.
Like any quilt made from a pattern, it's ultimately up to you to decide how you want to interpret it. That's true for this year's Block Of the Month, Garden Party Down Under, and Barbara Black has got little tips to help show you how to make this month's blocks your own. She says, "This month there is a striking appliqué vase. The vase can be cut from a single piece of fabric, or cut the handle from a different fabric to add interest. Your quilt, you get to decide."
It's the beginning of July which means we're on to the second half of this year's Block Of the Month, Garden Party Down Under. And since it's the start of the month, Barbara Black has her monthly tips and tricks blog to guide you along. She says, "Moving on to the second half of this year--we have a new, beautiful applique block and another ShooFly block."
Barbara has some great tips for this month's Shoofly and Appliqué blocks for Garden Party Down Under, including ideas on piecing and measuring along with some alternative ideas for the center of the Shoofly block.
We are almost halfway through the year, which means people are almost halfway down with the 2022 Block Of the Month, Garden Party Down Under. Barbara Black has posted some in-progress photos of some of her students' work on the BOM and they are just wonderful. And guess what? It's never too late for you to start their own 2022 BOM if you haven't yet because you still have half a year to go!
For Month 5 of Garden Party Down Under, Barbara Black guides you in making two different blocks. When finished and added to your quilt, you will begin to see the fruits of your labor come to life. She says, "This month we make TWO Applique Blocks. And when those are done you can sew BOTH the top and bottom rows to the center of the quilt, seeing progress!"
As we arrive at Month 4 of the 2022 BOM, Garden Party Down Under, Barbara Black has got the scoop on how to make the two blocks that lie ahead. She says, "It's Month 4 and once again we have an applique block and a pieced block."
Barbara Black has an update for Month 2 of Garden Party Down Under. The current Month 2 pattern is missing two leaves on the Basket Corner page 2, also page 1. Barbara has updated her Month 2 blog and created a Forum Topic on MONTH 2 PATTERN CORRECTION. She will also discuss the correction in her LIVE on March 5, 2022. We will be working on getting the pattern corrected as soon as possible.
For Month 2 of the 2022 BOM, Garden Party Down Under, Barbara Black has some helpful tips for you to get TWO borders attached (that's a lot of two's). She says, "This month we add a vine applique border to the center made in Month 1 and then surround it with the matching Dogtooth Border on the outer edges."
