We're almost two weeks into July and many of you have probably already started Month 7 of the 2024 TQS BOM, Pick a Petal designed by Jen Kingwell. For those that haven't, or those that may still want some pointers, Barbara Black has returned with her always helpful bag of tips and tricks to guide you along. This month is about starting the embroidery, and Barbara is here to help.
June marks the halfway point for our 2024 TQS Block Of the Month, Pick a Petal designed by Jen Kingwell. As always, Barbara Black is on hand to help you make the right decisions in making this quilt the way you want to make it with her handy tips and tricks. For Month 6, she says, "This month we do more whimsical applique on another Log Cabin border."
We're over one week into May, have you started (or maybe even finished) Month 5 of Pick a Petal, the 2024 TQS Block Of the Month designed by Jen Kingwell? Either way, it never hurts to get insight into what you're working on and that's why Barbara Black is here with her monthly tips and tricks to help you out. For this month, she says, "It is time to start the appliqué on the lovely Log Cabin borders."
Barbara Black returns with another set of handy and helpful tips to get you going on Month 4 of the 2024 TQS BOM, Pick a Petal, designed by Jen Kingwell. Here's what Barbara has to say about this month, "This month we make the Log Cabin blocks from light neutrals/low volume prints. They will form a border that gets lots of appliqué and embroidery embellishment."
Month 3 of the 2024 BOM, Pick a Petal by Jen Kingwell, has been available for a few days now. If you're having trouble, never fear, as Barbara Black comes with her monthly tips and tricks to help facilitate things. What are you working on this month? She says, "Month 3 introduces Block 2, a unique block with curves and petals, ideally made with hand piecing."
February is rolling along and with it comes a new set of tips and tricks from Barbara Black for the 2024 TQS Block Of the Month, Pick a Petal by Jen Kingwell. What will Barbara be helping you with this month? She says, "It's Month 2 and we start making a simple block, the Improved or Glorified 9 Patch."

Like in years past, Barbara Black is back to guide you through the making of the 2024 Block Of the Month, Pick a Petal by Jen Kingwell. Along with her monthly LIVEs, Barbara will be providing you with her signature tips and tricks to facilitate the process of making this fun, beautiful quilt, and Month 1 is all about how to make the center of the quilt.

Even though we released both the Month 11 and 12 patterns for our 2023 Block of the Month, Homeward Bound by Sarah Fielke, earlier this month, we previously mentioned that Barbara Black was only going to provide her tips for Month 11 at this time. Well as an early treat, Barbara has decided to debut her Month 12 tips now so you can get a jumpstart on finishing that top for the Holiday season. She says, "We made it to Month 12! It's time to finish the final border with a stair-step unit. Then your top will be done!"
While we released the patterns for both Months 11 and 12 of the 2023 Block Of the Month, Homeward Bound by Sarah Fielke, Barbara Black will still be releasing her tips monthly for the rest of the year. So she returns with her tricks and tips for completing Month 11, where you will "add the 4 Hearts to the pieced borders made last month" and "make the 12 Cabins for the last border."
From the Quilt Alliance, "This month's block is made using three block units — a Pinwheel, four Chevron units, and four Corner units. Can't decide whether to work on your Halloween projects or this month's Homeward Bound blocks? Well, maybe Barbara Black can push you in one direction over the other as she's back with her monthly tips to help you make the 2023 TQS BOM as smoothly as possible. She says, "After spending 3 months on the wide applique border, you will like how quickly the pieced border goes in Month 10. There is just a small amount of applique, leaves, stems, and berries."
From the Quilt Alliance, "Last month, we practiced accuracy with a no-waste method for making flying geese. We’ll be building on that skill this month as we create smaller flying geese units for this block with a meaningful story. Inspired by her personal journey of starting to quilt by flying solo, before joining a gaggle of quilters in a guild, our designer for this month is the skilled artist and designer Andrea Tsang Jackson of 3rd Story Workshop." This month she says you will be finishing "the wide applique borders by adding the Birds and more leaves."

For some of you, this might be a new or daunting technique, but don't worry!
