Featured Quilt - First Place Minimalist Design at QuiltCon 2023
Aura No. 1 by Audrey Esarey won First Place in the Minimalist Design category at QuiltCon 2023. While simple in its appearance, hence winning in Minimalist Design, the work Audrey has put beneath the surface of the quilt is much more complex and brings a deeper appreciation of the quilt.
She says, "The
Aura series is focused on minimalist pieced rings of hand dyed fabric with an overlay of dense quilting lines. The texture of the vibrant hand dyed turquoise and royal purple is visible through the dense straight line grid quilting. From afar, it appears that multiple shades of each fabric were used, but upon close inspection, the viewer can see that each stitched line of neon thread begins to shift the single hue of fabric beneath."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Sending A Message Out
"Message in a Bottle" by Irene Blanck
The title of Irene's quilt is a clever play on
words. See if you can spot the meaning of it from her description of the quilt. She says, "I designed Message in a Bottle because of my love for scrip/newsprint fabric. Background for the blocks include newsprint fabric as well as some linen. Blocks methods include needleturn applique as well as some machine pieced blocks."
