Featured Quilt - Third Place - Small Wall Quilts: Stationary Machine Quilted at Paducah 2023

The title of Karen K. Stone's quilt, Been There Before, is an appropriate one as she has certainly been there before. Where is there you may ask? Why it's the winner's circle, because her quilt, like many of hers before this, has won an award. This particular quilt took home Third Place - Small Wall Quilts: Stationary Machine Quilted (Sponsored by Koala Studios presented by Calico Country Sew & Vac) at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2023, and before that won 1st Place - Open Division: Art Quilts (303) at the 2023 Dallas Quilt Show. About the making of her work, Karen says that Been There Before is "Improvisationally pieced from commercial cottons and my hand-dyes; machine quilted using cotton batting and cotton & silk threads."

If you love Karen's quilt, you'll love learning from her too, which you can do right here at The Quilt Show by watching her in

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Party Out In The Garden

"Garden Party" by Sue Nickels

Garden Party was made for one of Sue's Paradigm quilting group exhibits where the theme was botany. It was created using the machine appliqué technique that she and her sister Pat Holly have used for many years and also features the more recent ruler work in the borders that Sue has been exploring lately. Sue feels that the quilt fits in her more traditional wheelhouse of quilting, but "branches" off in a bit of a new direction that meshed well with the exhibit which featured many floral art-type quilts.

See more of Sue and Pat's quilts in Learn How to Use Rulers in Your Quilting with Sue Nickels | Learn How to Work with Silk Ties with Pat Holly.
