Featured Quilt - Best of Show at the 2024 Palo Verde Patchers’ Quilt Show

Not only do our TQS BOMs help our members win awards, they also just help people. And in the case of Nancy Kemp, both of those were true. Our 2022 TQS BOM, Garden Party Down Under designed by Irene Blanck, was the pattern Nancy used for her quilt Guarire Con Fiori, which won Best of Show at the 2024 Palo Verde Patchers’ Quilt Show. It was quilted by Cyndi Morgan.

The title, Guarire Con Fiori, translates to "heal with flowers", which was very apropos for Nancy as the quilt helped her get through a very difficult time. She says, "After an extremely rocky year of cancer treatments, this hand appliqué BOM helped me recover and discover why I love hand appliqué." We'd also like to give a shout out to Barbara Black, who let us know of Nancy's win. Nancy says Barbara's videos were an invaluable source of help in creating the quilt.

 Congratulations Nancy!

Learn About Kurumi Buttons from Alex Anderson

It's Time For A Button Bonanza

Alex shares a fun way to add a decorative layer of embellishment to your work by using a domed button without a shank called Kurumi buttons. Perfect for use with small scale prints, 1930s, and Liberty designs, the fabric covered button domes are a great way to feature fussy cuts or bits of hand embroidery and are attached in a similar matter to hand appliqué.

WeAllSew Tutorial: Upcycled Jeans Yoga Bag

Upcycle Your Way To Exercising

Sometimes quilters can get caught up in their quilting and spend all day at their machines. While this may be good for the project you're working on, it is NOT good for your body. You need to take the time to take care of yourself so CAN spend long hours quilting. Yoga can be a great way to do that, and former TQS guest and teacher Kris Vierra has a project for you that combines both quilting and yoga. She will teach how to create an Upcycled Jeans Yoga Bag and has some poses specifically geared toward sewists to help you out.

Learn from Kris right here on The Quilt Show by watching her in Learn Finishing Techniques and How to Quilt Your Garments with Kris Vierra.
