Featured Quilt - THIS Is The Droid You're Looking For!

In honor of the Star Wars Celebration 2023, recently held in London, we present BB-8 by Angela Bowman which was on exhibit at QuiltCon 2023 in the Piecing category. Angela says, "Your favorite Star Wars BB unit gets his own modern cameo in this graphic quilt. BB-8 is made of a foundation paper-pieced grid of squares, using solid fabrics. He's cute, round, courageous, and has saved us more times than we know. "Never underestimate a droid." - Leia Organa"

Making a Stitched Paper Maquette with David Owen Hastings

An Exercise in Composition and Execution

David Owen Hastings shares how a simple and inexpensive paper study, also known as a Maquette, can help you build a composition before cutting into fabric in our newest show. After discussing the tools and papers needed with Ricky, he shows examples of how changes in value, contrast, and stitch lines can result in interesting quilt design options.

Learn from David, and Connie Fanders, by watching them in Paper Study with a Maquette and Abstract Quilt Designs with David Owen Hastings | Quilt Designs with Connie Fanders.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Krazy Kool Kaleidoscope

"Kaleidoscopic XXXIX - Right and Wrong Sides Together" by Paula Nadelstern

In Kaleidoscopic XXXIX - Right and Wrong Sides Together, the left kaleidoscope was pieced traditionally by sewing the right sides of the fabric together. The segments of the right kaleidoscope are identical to the left, but are pieced with the wrong sides of the segments together. A single layer of black tulle covers the right kaleidoscope. The quilt measures 45" x 85" and all of the fabric was designed by Paula with the exception of the batiks and tulle. It is machine pieced and machine quilted.
