Featured Quilt - First Place Improvisation at QuiltCon 2025
Out of the Blue by Emilie Trahan won First Place - Improvisation (Sponsored by SAQA) at QuiltCon 2025. Emilie says of her quilt, "Second quilt of a series that explores the relationship of the color red with every other color; this quilt focuses on red and blue. Originally started with the intention of being a 'small' wall hanging; this piece is a testament to the very nature of improvisation and how it can grow organically, and outgrow our conceptions, hopefully opening up new paths. Entirely made of upcycled fabrics (mainly bed linens), and upcycled flannel sheets as batting." |

"Rainbodacious" by Diane Harris
When Diane first began working for Quiltmaker magazine she had been a stay-at-home mom for twenty years, so having a full-time job was a big adjustment for her and she wasn't having any time to sew. This made her unhappy so, in desperation, she cut up some scraps into 1.5" by 2.5" bricks because she had a sense that you could make some kind of windmill block with them. Diane would keep those patches by her machine and in the evening she would mindlessly make those little blocks and this quilt, Rainbodacious, was born.
