Featured Quilt - Best Original Modern Design at QuiltCon 2025

Poppy Quilt by Audrey Esarey won Best Original Modern Design (Sponsored by A Gathering of Stitches) at QuiltCon 2025. Audrey says, "This is my version of a flower quilt block designed using primarily curved piecing. The various reds contrast against the turquoise fabric, and the corner stars create a secondary mini block that continues into the border. A subtle color gradation is applied diagonally throughout the design. While not directly inspired by another quilt block, the Poppy Quilt shares some design elements with a traditional block, the Petal Circle in a Square, dating back to 1955."

The "Laurel Ridge" Story Continues

Have You Been Following Along?

In addition to designing Laurel Ridge, our magnificent 2025 Block Of the Month, Lynn Wilder also created a story to go along with the quilt. Each month we will be featuring a chapter of the Laurel Ridge story. Each chapter will be available under the Patterns/Documents Tab.

Lynn's Laurel Ridge quilt design pays homage to the courageous women of the 1930s American Depression era who were employed by the newly established Work Progress Administration (WPA) as Packhorse Librarians, the pioneering traveling 'bookmobile'. Follow the story of some of these women every month as you create your Laurel Ridge quilt.

Catch up on the first two chapters of the story below, then read the newest chapter for Month 3.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Soaring On The Wind

"Winds of Change" by Kyra Reps

Winds of Change is a wholecloth quilt that Kyra wanted to make showcase her longarming skills. Not one for having every one of her quilts being decked out, Kyra felt this one needed to be "blinged", and added sparkling crystals across the surface of the piece.

Are You Seeing Spots?

No, your eyesight hasn't gone bad, those are the colorful spots, or dots, or circles, that feature prominently in the quilts of Kyra Reps. How Kyra made and incorporated those into her design was just one of the many things we learned in our latest show. But there's still so much more to learn as well! With over 450 episodes of The Quilt Show you can teach yourself a new topic everyday for over a year-and-a-half, and our shows usually feature multiple demos and techniques. So maybe it's good that you're seeing spots, and squares, and half-square triangles, because it means you're just becoming a better quilter right here at The Quilt Show!
