Featured Quilt - Mixing The Old With The New
Michelle Baker gave herself a challenge, to incorporate some antique blocks she had into a Modern quilt. We think she succeeded, as her quilt, LeMoyne Star Modern, was featured as part of the Modern Quilts - A Twist on Tradition Exhibit (Sponsored by Wonderfil Specialty Threads) at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2024.
Michelle says of her quilt, "This quilt was a machine quilting challenge to incorporate pieces from antique LeMoyne Star blocks. I made a large LeMoyne Star, put it on point, and twisted the setting. The quilting combines feather sprays and modern linear quilting lines." |

Mixing Media and Techniques Has Never Been So Much Fun
Wen Redmond is a mixed media and digital fiber artist who enjoys exploring the boundaries of photography, digital printing, and fabric to create impactful quilts that reflect her deep love of nature. Formerly a home economics teacher, in 2003 she began using her computer skills to blend her love of photography with textiles—and hasn't looked back since. Wen demonstrates how to create holographic and textured images printed on unconventional materials. Plus, Ricky recreates his Spiderweb quilt, inspired by a pattern he found in a 1970s exhibition catalog, which he originally made for his parents' 50th anniversary.

Preserving Eliza Doolittle's Dress From The West End
From the Victoria and Albert Museum: "This fragile silk costume was once worn on the West End stage by Julie Andrews in her role as Eliza Doolittle – star of the classic musical My Fair Lady. Designed by iconic designer and photographer Cecil Beaton, the exquisite ballgown was influenced by Beaton’s glamorous mid-century fashion photography. Follow the gown’s transformation in our Conservation studio, as we prepare it for display in our Theatre and Performance galleries." |

"Country Courthouse" by Lynn Wilder
Lynn says of Country Courthouse, "This quilt contains 81 Courthouse Step blocks, and 64 blocks containing five 9-patch units. The blocks finish at 5-1/2". I say small yet mighty. I never tired of selecting the different fabrics for each block. Every block is unique and beautiful in it's own way......just like people. I did have a rule that same fabrics could not touch each other. That wasn't too challenging since I had such a variety from which to choose."
