ASHEVILLE, NC, March 31, 2022 - The nonprofit Quilt Alliance announces Quilters' Save Our Stories (QSOS) interviews with three outstanding quiltmakers will headline its 2022 virtual event, Quilters Take a Moment.
This year’s theme is ‘Sustainability Stories’, and speakers will discuss sustainability in all forms including
- quiltmaking that sustains the earth and and its resources
- sustaining the tradition of quiltmaking for future generations
- maintaining a creative practice
- making quilts in a way that’s sustainable for our bodies
- creating a sustainable business in the quilt community
- sustaining the lives and stories of our quilts into the future
The spotlight QSOS interviewees this year are Carla Hemlock, Tula Pink, and Jennifer Sampou. Each artist will be interviewed by a colleague or friend for QSOS, the historic oral history collection founded in 1999 -- the largest collection of its kind in the world. The interviews with this year's artists will be archived, along with 1,200 other interviews with quiltmakers, by our partners at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress and at the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History at the University of Kentucky.
We will also present three panel discussions about sustaining a creative business, re-using and preserving vintage textiles, and quiltmaking with a smaller environmental footprint. Add-on events including workshops and interactive demonstrations will address sustainability in a hands-on way. Tickets will include both live and prerecorded content and all sessions will be recorded and available to ticket holders after the event.
Visit www.qtm2022.org to read more about the event and sign up to be notified when tickets are available. Pre-sale of discounted tickets will be offered to Quilt Alliance members on May 14, 2022. Ticket sales to the public will open on May 21, 2022.
The fundraiser marks the 10th event in the Alliance's Quilters Take Manhattan series and will be held virtually September 13-18, 2022 via Zoom.
