Block of the Month Quilt 2022 Garden Party Down Under by Irene Blanck with Barbara Black

(Show 3001) The 2022 Block of the Month, Garden Party Down Under, designed by Irene Blanck, was inspired by her mother’s flower garden. Barbara Black is back to share her own version of the pattern along with helpful tips for preparing Irene’s method of needle-turn appliqué method and her own fast turned-edge machine appliqué method.

It’s time for a garden party where Alex, Ricky, Barbara and a surprise ‘virtual visit’ from Irene share their gardens and what makes these personal spaces so special to them. Lastly, Barbara shows how to make beautiful and perfect machine appliqué stitches as well as options for changing the Block of the Month pattern to be more personalized. We also learn how the Sunday Sew and Sews came together and as a group made quick work of a quilt that took them 10 weeks to make.

I’m trying to get the link to work to print off instructions and template, but neither links will work on my computer or cell phone. Can you send a link for me?

another option for the stems would be Karen Kay Buckley's Perfect Stems. I tried the clover devices and the fabric twists. Perhaps someone with more experience with these devices has a trick he/she could share.

I don't choose applique as a technique but have dabbled in machine quilting pieces a bit. This show with the options has me wanting to really test myself.

Thank you for all you have done to get this ready and tested for us.

Yes, there are more ways to make stems--Karen showed her method in her TQS show which is one of the reasons I encourage people to watch the two Master class applique shows.

The great thing about Garden Party Down Under is Month 1 and 2 make a great size small quilt--38" square if you stop at the outside Dogtooth Border. So you don't have to commit to the entire project to try out some applique techniques.

Alex and Ricky, may I suggest that you tell the viewer what "BOM" stands for right up front? Not everyone will know. It wasn't until the very end of the program that Alex actually said "block of the month." I think about this every time you mention the TQS BOMs on your "lives," too, Alex.

Anne, you are right. BOM still sounds odd to me, I try to always say Block of the Month.

Thanks for the compliments--taping is a challenge, to get all the info across, not too much, not too fast. I am very happy with how this show came out. The...
