A Mod Podge Appliqué Technique and Fabric Selection with Kestrel Michaud | Embroidery Hoop Quilting with Sarah Vedeler

(Show 3303) Award-winning fiber artist and fabric illustrator Kestrel Michaud was destined to be an artist. With creative parents who encouraged her from an early age, art school professors who recognized her gift of working with fabric and refused to let her work in other mediums, to discovering the world of quilting blended with hi-tech. Learn how Kestrel creates raw-edge frayless fused-appliqué quilts and how to make your own accurate color card swatches for perfect fabric selection.

Then Sarah Vedeler, the queen of machine embroidery, shows you how to use computerized software to quilt with embroidery on a domestic sewing machine.

Kestrel uses a photo for color choices but mentions using commercial Paint Chips. Taking paint chips, without asking permission, would be like a painter taking fabric samples, with no intention of buying fabric, to clean up paint drips.

I do mention commercial paint chips, but only in the context of they gave me the idea to make my own, as demonstrated in the video.

The heaviness of a queen size quilt, on the domestic machine embroidery unit - how did she deal with that - positioning tables for support all around?

Thanks for tec help. Working fine. I am a big fan so loved this show. When you stick to cutting board which side is stuck to board fabric or wonder under?

Stick the fusible side of the fabric to the sticky mat.

She didn't mention whether or not she prewashes the batiks.

I always prewash. Removing the sizing helps the fusible stick better.

Wow what an wonderfully innovative, creative show, a show I know I will revisit. This show alone is worth the cost of the yearly subscription to TQS.

I use the standard blade, which Cricut calls a Fine Point Blade.
