How to Do Handwork | Handwork Masterclass Part 2 - All About Stitches from Basic to Fancy
(Show 3009) We're bringing you our second Masterclass on Handwork with Rosie de Leon-McCrady, Anna Bates, Sandra Leichner, Amy McClellan, and Meg Hawkey. Essentially, we're keeping you in stitches with a variety of artists who love handwork. From the classic basic stitches of redwork to the classic and elegant stitches of sashiko.
Rosie teaches us three basic stitches, the stem stitch, outline stitch, and backstitch, and also shares tools to get started. Anna gives a great overview of Sashiko, including how thread comes on a skein, cutting so it doesn’t tangle, and talks about pre-printed Sashiko designs, needles, marking, and stitching. Sandra explains how she brings her quilts to life with fabric and thread, and how to create realistic-looking vines, stems, and tendrils with embroidery. Amy demonstrates how she creates her reverse chain stitch in a hoop. And last but not least, Meg shows off a sample that has a variety of different stitches, while teaching four, including the backstitch, the lazy daisy (or detached chain), the chain stitch, and the cast-on stitch (3D flowers).
