"Lynne Edwards: Swan Song" Exhibition at The Festival of Quilts 2024

From The Festival of Quilts"For over fifty years, Lynne Edwards MBE has been making quilts, and now that retirement looms, it’s time to showcase that enormous body of work and find new homes for them all in her 'Swan Song' exhibition at The Festival of Quilts 2024. It will also be a great opportunity for Lynne to bid a public farewell and thank the hundreds of amazing people she has met, taught, and laughed with over the years."

More From The Festival of Quilts:

"For over fifty years, Lynne Edwards has been making quilts and consistently passing on ideas and techniques to others through classes, books and magazines. Now that retirement looms, it’s a time to showcase that enormous body of work, from small samples to full-size pieces, and to find new homes for them all.

Many pieces have found a wider audience through classes, publications and videos but few people have seen more than a selection of Lynne’s work in person, so this promises to be a one-off opportunity to see the entire collection of every item of work that she still possesses, from small samples for classes to full-size quilts, and for visitors to take home a piece for themselves if that is their choice.

Quite a few quilts have already passed from Lynne’s hands over the years, and these will not be borrowed back for this collection but Lynne plans to give every quilt and sample she still owns a last moment in the sun. There are far too many pieces to be hung formally, so a core selection of headliner quilts will be displayed on the walls but many more will be available to examine and stroke."

The exhibit will be on display at The Festival of Quilts from August 1, 2024 – August 4, 2024 at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, UK.

I’ve been lucky enough to have been taught by Lynne, in a small group up in the mountains, an hour from Valencia. She has also recently produced a series of quilting videos and she is truly an inspirational teacher, as well as a highly entertaining one. I’d gladly listen to her reading the phone book, she would make it hilarious!

I have never met Lynne Edwards, but know her work through the books and articles in British patchwork and quilting magazines which have inspired and taught so many over the years. Her MBE award received from the now King some years ago for services to Quilting is well deserved and her book on Samplers is a go-to book for any quilter especially beginners. Only sorry I shall not be able to be at the FOQ and hope she has a long and happy retirement
