The Quilt Show Puzzle: "Wool Appliquéd Butterflies" by Catherine Redford
Do a puzzle of Catherine Redford's quilt, Wool Appliquéd Butterflies.
After completing her Embroidered Butterflies quilt, Catherine was asked if she would make her butterflies in wool as well. She obliged and redid them in wool for her quilt Wool Appliquéd Butterflies, adjusting the parameters to suit the material. In order to do this, she had to simplify the shapes a little to be able to cut the pieces out. For the embroidered butterflies she included lots of lines, but for the wool ones you could cut out all of those pieces and stitch them down. After simplifying them, she stitched them down using whip-stitch wool appliqué. These butterflies don't stray completely from their original counterpart, however, as they do feature some embroidery on top.
