The Quilt Show Puzzle: "Owsley's Owls" by Maria Shell
Do a puzzle of Maria Shell's quilt, Owsley's Owls.
Owsley's Owls is an older quilt of Maria's but is relevant to some of the things she is working on now. The quilt started in Roberta Horton's Folk Art class, where Roberta encouraged her students to cut directly into the fabric and use that fabric for other things. Maria took the class very seriously and cut into the fabric patterns directly to create the owls out of different pattern shapes. In doing that, Maria realized that it was a lot like scrapbooking and she translated this process to the community quilts that she makes.
