The Quilt Show Puzzle: "Char #4" by MJ Kinman
Do a puzzle of MJ Kinman's quilt, Char #4.
Char #4 is part of MJ's Bourbon Diamond series of quilts and pays tribute to Brown-Forman's Old Forester Bourbon. Brown-Forman is known for making its own barrels, while other companies do not. Since you can't have good bourbon without fire, Brown-Forman takes new oak barrels and shoots fire inside of them to toast and char them which gives the bourbon its flavor, color, and special bourbon properties. MJ really wanted to make a quilt that paid tribute to that fire, and since there are four levels of char, Char #4 was then its name.
MJ writes about Char #4 and the lavender zoisite that inspired it, "Years ago, an image of a lovely crystal arrived in my mailbox. That little gem not only caught my attention, it grabbed hold of my soul. In doing so, it launched a journey that has enriched my life. May you experience as much joy in viewing them as I have had in creating them."
