Featured Quilt - Best of Show at 2023 AQS QuiltWeek Grand Rapids

Another guest of The Quilt Show has taken home a major award. Colette Dumont, who was recently featured on the show demonstrating her beading techniques, has taken home Best of Show at the 2023 QuiltWeek Show in Grand Rapids with her spectacular quilt, Set Fire To The Sky. There are some great close-ups in the gallery, so make sure you click through all the images.

With Set Fire To The Sky, Colette wanted to test some very fine point paper piecing, so fine you wouldn't be able to make the quilt without it. The center represents a fire as it makes its way to the outside blue fabric, which is the sky in this case. The quilt also won Best of Show at Quilt Canada 2022 last year.

See this amazing quilt, plus learn some of the beading techniques from Colette herself, by watching How to Do Stained Glass Quilts with Lamé and Beaded Borders with Colette Dumont | Button Embroidery with Alex Anderson.

P.S. You can also do a puzzle of Colette's quilt too if you just can't get enough of it.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Come and Visit The Park

"Around the Bend" by Vicki Conley

Around the Bend is one of Vicki's National Park poster quilts and celebrates Big Bend National Park in South Texas. Using the view that she saw from the Rio Grande River as her inspiration and the focal point of the quilt, she surrounded it with the beautiful yellow-golden grass seen there in the winter and populated it with javelinas, an animal similar to a wild boar, crossing through. The lettering of the park title was done using silkscreen that Vicki designed in Photoshop and created Thermofax screens which she then silkscreened on top of the finished quilt.
