Featured Quilt - Best Longarm Machine Workmanship Wall Quilt Competition at PIQF 2022

Alhambra by Mary Anne Fontana won Best Longarm Machine Workmanship in the Wall Quilt Competition at PIQF 2022. Where is Alhambra you may ask, and how did this locale inspire this visually stunning and scenic quilt? Mary has the answer for you. "Alhambra, Spain. An original photograph printed on wholecloth printers cotton. Cotton batting and backing. Free motion "thread painted" with thousands of yards of thread in dozens of colors. Detailed with watercolor paints and fabric markers to enhance detail. My vision for Alhambra is for it to look like a framed picture rather than a contemporary art quilt."
Robin Long's Mariner's Compasses are as Easy as Pie
Mhmm, Pie

Robin Long says that her method of building a Mariner's Compass is as easy as pie. Basic building blocks using strips are cut, reassembled, and sewn together to make larger pie-shaped pieces. Cutting strips along the grain means no more tricky bias edges. After sharing the basics of building the compass, or pie, it’s then time to see how the pattern can be varied by size, with a fussy cut center, appliqué, or rounded edges.
