Featured Quilt - Best Wall Quilt at the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza 2021
Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry (Show 1308), friend and guest of the show, has done it again and won another award. Her quilt, Remote Float #1, won The Baby Lock Best Wall Quilt award at the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza 2021. Hear Caryl give just a hint of the work that went into this stunningly realistic looking quilt, "The cormorant and the water surrounding it are heavily quilted and thread painted. The negative spaces are quilted simply with a series of almost parallel lines that echo the ripples in the water." Effervescence is a silk quilt made for Pokey Bolton's tribute exhibit to Yvonne Porcella (Show 713), Live Your Brightest Life, after she had passed. The criteria for the exhibit was the artist was asked to make a quilt in Yvonne's style aesthetic, but in their own way. For Effervescence, which uses Yvonne's color palette, Lisa says, "This quilt was constructed using my own method for making a mock Cathedral Window block. It is made on a domestic sewing machine and is quilted. The overlapping circles remind me of champagne bubbles."
