Featured Quilt - Some Award-Winning "Face" Time

My Big Face by Cindy Stohn won First Place - Wall Quilts: Quilter’s Choice sponsored by Elna USA at AQS Quiltweek Paducah 2022. In addition to winning that great award, it also took Best Longarm Machine Workmanship - Innovative at the Mancuso 2021 Virtual Spring Quilt Festival. Cindy says, "I created this self portrait inspired by the painting style of Chuck Close. I first created the image using paint chips on a 1/2" grid, then I transferred the concept into fabric. Free motion quilting using multiple layers of thread rings adheres the circles to the pieced squares. Over 120 colors of fabric and 56 colors of thread were used to create the illusion. No software, paint or fusible products were used."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Share Your Love With Someone
"Pick Me" by Olesya Lebedenko

Pick Me
is named for the gesture of each of the cats in the corners of the quilt. Each set of paws is presenting a heart to the cat in the bottom right in the hopes that it will "pick them" to be their friend. I'm sure we all know a friendly animal companion or two just like that.

See more of Olesya's quilts in Paperless Piecing with Character and 3-Dimensional Animals with Olesya Lebedenko.
