Featured Quilt - NACQJ Award of Merit at Road to California 2023

Joan of Arc by Veruschka Zarate was awarded the NACQJ Award of Merit for Outstanding Achievement in Quiltmaking at Road to California 2023. What is the NACQJ Award of Merit? "At the judge's discretion, the NACQJ Award of Merit will be awarded to one quilt which has achieved recognized standards of quiltmaking excellence."

We certainly agree with the judge's sentiments on Veruschka's excellent quilt, and here is a little bit more background on it from Veruschka herself. "Joan of Arc is foundation paper pieced using 20 colors and 1453 bits of fabric shapes. My aim was to capture her classical complexity through a modern, clean, fabric color palette and minimalistic quilting with a focus on light."

In this Go Tell It at the Quilt Show! interview from the Quilt Alliance, you'll be able to see both on display as he talks about his Frida Kahlo quilt.

Michael was also featured as part of the Quilt Alliance's Quilters' Save Our Stories (QSOS) program, which we recently featured. Click the button below to hear more about Michael and another of his magnificent quilts.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Orange You Glad You Saw This

"Orange Sherbet" by Irene Blanck

Orange Sherbet takes Irene's love of colors to the next level by featuring two of her favorites, including its namesake. She says, "I love Blue and Orange fabrics sewn together - and that's where I got the idea for Orange Sherbet.  It consists of 4 blocks with a viney border - and of course, who can go past a scallop border."
