Featured Quilt - NACQJ Award of Merit at the Indiana Heritage Quilt Show
Just as we did on Friday, today we are featuring another recipient of a NACQJ (National Association of Quilt Judges) Award of Merit. Today's featured quilt and quilter both come from Indiana, where Laura Welklin's quilt, Leaves in My Garden, received the award in February at the Indiana Heritage Quilt Show in Bloomington IN by NACQJ CJ Lisa Schreck. Laura's quilt is a feast of floral and nature-inspired designs, from its machine quilted leaf border to its rows of flower boxes surrounding the center. Take a look for yourself and see why Laura's quilt won this prestigious award. Congratulations Laura!

Do You Know Which Show it Was and Who Made It?
Leading up to the 50th anniversary edition of the International Quilt Festival in Houston this October, the International Quilt Association have been posting past Best of Show quilt winners. One such winner was 2003's 1776: Heartache, Heritage, and Happiness by Pam Holland.
Pam, a winner of the prestigious Rajah Award in Australia, was a guest on the show and discussed the quilt with Alex and Ricky. In the photo above, Alex, Pam, and Ricky are standing in front of the "1776 Quilt" as it is commonly referred to.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Brighter Than A Star

"Batik Star" by Cathy Perlmutter
Cathy's Batik Star is one of her improv triangle quilts made with, what else, batiks! She feels that it has a different mood than her other improv triangle quilts because of the batiks, giving off a soft feeling. Cathy loves quilts that have uneven edges, so she gave her Batik Star a pillowcase finish to represent that look.
See more of Cathy's quilts in Improv Log Cabin Triangle Piecing, Cityscapes, and Judaic Quilting with Cathy Perlmutter.
