Featured Quilt - Crowned with Care - QuiltCon 2023
We love this quilt, Crowned with Care by Uzoma Samuel Anyanwu, featured in the Handwork category of QuiltCon 2023. His selection of fabrics to convey the faces of the children is exceptional and make them feel alive. Take a closer look and you might find a few unusual characters as well. Unicorn anyone? Dogs, Goats, and Pictorial Quilts, Oh My!
Rhonda Denney loves the challenge of
trying to capture the spirit of a subject, be it expressive eyes, a look, or a position. Using dimensional stitching combined with fabric colored using pigments, pencils, and even make-up, the featured subject's personality comes to life. Rhonda shows you how fun it is to add and blend color to fabric with these unusual products. Then learn how free-motion thread stitching can create even more depth and realism in your subject.

Sylvain Bergeron Shows You How to Protect Your Quilts For Travel
Sylvain
Bergeron at WeAllSew needed to make a wrap of some kind to protect his rolled-up art quilts to take to a lecture, class, or event. He had been using a heavy plastic bag designed for fabric rolls, which worked relatively well, to a point. A bag has a set size and it could become too small (too tight) or too big (too loose) if he rolled up too many or too few quilts together. So he opted to make a "wrap", a flat piece of fabric with ties to cinch it just right (but not tightly) for whatever size of roll he had to protect. Think of it as a soft protective tarp.

"Austria's Mona Lisa" by Cristina Arcenegui Bono
Austria's Mona
Lisa is based on the painting Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I by Gustav Klimt, whose subject is also known as Austria's Mona Lisa. The quilt holds a lot of meaning for Cristina as it is made from a scarf of the painting that her husband gifted to her knowing that she wouldn't be wearing it around her neck, but that she would use it in a quilt. She made the quilt in 2018, which was the centenary death of Klimt.
