Featured Quilt - Second Place from the "New Quilts from an Old Favorite: Roaring Twenties" Competition

Twilight O'er the Chrysler Building by Susan Morgan won Second Place in the New Quilts from an Old Favorite: Roaring Twenties contest. The quilt, along with the others selected to be shown as part of the Roaring Twenties exhibit, is currently on display at The National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY. Here's what Susan had to say about her quilt, "An abstraction of evening falling over the iconic art deco Chrysler Building in New York City. All of the design elements in the quilt were inspired by actual design elements from the Chrysler building itself, mostly exterior details but also some from the interior elevators. The color palette (inspired by the 2022 Pantone Color of the Year) was chosen for its urban elegance, fitting for a night out of jazz and glamour."

On The Set with Michelle de Groot

What's In Store In This Week?

Australian artist and tutor Michelle de Groot is back this Sunday to share how to remove and replace specific areas of a wholecloth design using decolorant. How does she do it you may ask? You won't find out until the show debuts, but we're here to give you a peak behind the scenes, so see if you can figure it out for yourself. Plus, there's ruler work, koalas, and so much more! Stay tuned to see what's coming your way.

Watch Michelle in How to Quilt with Rulers, Use Decolorant (Non-Bleach), and Make a Koala Quilt with Michelle de Groot, when it debuts this Sunday, June 30, 2024.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Let There Be Light

"Lumos" by Cindy Wiens

After taking the Radiant Star class from Tara Faughnan, Cindy had a beautiful star block but not idea what to do it. So she set it aside for the time being. During that time Cindy began making Engligh Paper Pieced Double Ruby Ring blocks that were designed by Michelle Bartholomew. As luck would have it, she had the Ring blocks and the Star Block up on her design wall at the same time and felt that they looked fantastic together. So Cindy went and made more of the English Paper Pieced blocks than she had planned on to fit her new design, and then added her own borders around the outside to finish the initial look of the quilt. It was named Lumos after the Harry Potter spell used to light up dark places, and was given to Dawn Haldeman to be quilted.

I stumbled upon NJMCDirect while searching for a way to pay my ticket and was pleasantly surprised by its efficiency. For those interested in the process, you can read online about how to use the service.
