Featured Quilt - Third Place Wall Quilts: Quilter’s Choice at Paducah 2024
Mix and Mingle by Barbara Oliver Hartman won Third Place - Wall Quilts: Quilter’s Choice (Sponsored by Elna USA) at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2024. True to its name, Barbara's quilt mixes and matches many different colors of fabric that come together in a cohesively abstract quilt (if there even is such a thing). Barbara also cleverly uses smaller pieces of fabric cut into rectangles and circles that when viewed from a distance look like big hand stitches that were used to tie each piece together. |

"Lucy's Poppy Quilt" by Meg Cox
When Meg Cox' husband passed, it was devastating to her, but even more so for her granddaughter Lucy, who was eight at the time. To help both her and her granddaughter cope, Meg made Lucy's Poppy Quilt, which was her first memorial quilt. All of the letters that spell out "POPPY LOVES LUCY 4 EVER" are made from Meg's husband's shirts, except the letters that spell "LUCY", which are made from a bathrobe. Deciding that a quilt made from his shirts didn't capture the sentiment of love enough due to Lucy's difficulty processing the loss, Meg felt it necessary to convey the lovely message directly on the quilt itself.
