Featured Quilt - Like A Bolt of Lightning In The Sky

We cap off our feature on Quiltcon 2022's MQG Temperature Quilts exhibit with a quilt that not only represents the temperature, but has a weather inspired design done for the quilting as well. Mother Nature Bats Last by Joan Chao uses a lightning bolt design to carry the weather theme beyond just hot and cold.

She writes, "This temperature quilt documents the high and low daily temperatures in Chicago during 2020. Monthly columns are in a Streak of Lightning setting. To further accentuate the weather theme, the background is grey sky and the backing is blue sky. Events are recorded on the back detailing how Mother Nature made it a remarkable year."

How Jenny Beavan Brought The House of Dior Back to Life

Oscar Winner Jenny Beavan has designed costumes for a wide spectrum of films, from the streets of London in Cruella to the wastelands of Mad Max: Fury Road. But her latest project called on her to create and enliven fashion that has already exited for almost a hundred years, that of the House of Christian Dior. Watch the video, and read about how she had to fill "the tall order of designing for perhaps the year's most fashionable film, Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris."

A Canine Carrying Case

What if your pet came to school everyday and carried your pencils, erasers, and crayons? That's the concept behind Jessica Abbott
's Dachshund Pencil Case at WeAllSew. Your children (and you, we know you need pencils just as much as they do) won't lost track of their writing instruments once they are
conveniently held by their new four-legged friend.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Grab Your Partner and Dance
"Libby's Line Dances" by Mary McCauley

Libby Lehman was Mary's quilting teacher for as many classes as she could take with her. One of those at Art Quilt Tahoe was called Class Act, where you had to make a quilt inspired by your favorite class, which for Mary was one of Libby's classes. Libby taught Mary the thread play featured throughout the quilt, but she also taught her and many other students Texas Line Dancing after classes were over for the day. Libby's line, which is her signature curve featured in the quilt, and the line dancing helped Mary come up with double entendre for the title, Libby's Line Dances. Mary's take on the quilt was to take the curves and make them 3-dimensional for the quilt so that they danced on their own.
