Featured Quilt - Beautiful Cubed Flowers
You've probably never seen flowers quite like these. Masako Tsuda used a fairly traditional idea for her quilt, some flowers through a window, put turned the idea on its head. Square Windows 3 was featured in the Abstract, Large category at Houston in 2019 and depicts its flowers in a very modern way. Masako says, "This piece features images of Cubism in modern art. I designed the hollyhocks in box shapes. There are many beautiful hollyhocks over the window." With beautiful free-motion quilting and machine appliqué, it's hard to tell if Masako grew the flowers in her studio or manufactured them in a factory.

"The Strangest Vase That Ever Was" by Alethea Ballard
For The Strangest Vase That Ever Was, Alethea used fabric from the "Ghastlies" series, which features a sardonic family, to create this rather unusual quilt. If you look at each member of the family, and all around the quilt, someone always has their eyes looking at someone else. So you better keep an eye out, because someone's eye may just be on you.
