Featured Quilt - Like Floating on a Quilted Cloud
Fractured Floatation by Claudia Pfeil was featured in the Abstract quilts category at Road to California 2023. Started during the second COVID lockdown, it was finished over a year later. You won't believe all the stunning circular, spinning, and spiraling designs Claudia fit into this quilt. Once seen, you'll be impressed that it didn't take her ten years to finish.
She says, "Started during the 2nd Covid Lockdown in August 2020 under my guidance as a mystery challenge on social media, finished in October 2021. Emblematic of the uncertain time and situation: fractured background and circles, spirals and different textures - circles of different sizes floating above and below
each other."

We Made A Mistake With Monday's Quilt
Due to a sign mix-up
at Road to California 2023, we mislabled our featured quilt in Monday's newsletter. Fortunately the creator of the quilt, Tami Graeber, reached out to us and provided us with all the correct information for her wonderful work.
The quilt is actually titled Fancy Steps by Tami Graeber and was featured at Road to California 2023. Tami says of her inspiration for the quilt, "The photo was taken by Sara of Unidentified Colors photography from Mississippi with permission granted to me to reproduce. It was of the staircase at the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio, TX. I love painting full size Mexican Tiles and this is my 5th tile quilt. This was a challenge because the tiles range in size from 1/2”-1”. The quilt is 31" x 43”."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: It's Not So Complicated
|
|
|
|
"Complications" by Kim Eichler-Messmer
Complications is part of Kim's Narrative Series of quilts. She writes, "I started making these narrative quilts while in graduate school at the University of Kansas in 2005 and the series continued through 2010. They are autobiographical, using the rabbit and the tooth as a stand in for myself. Each quilt attempts to deal with a family story, attitude, or perception. All of these quilts are heavily worked, starting with all hand dyed and screen printed fabric. Most have multiple layers of cloth sewn together and cut through, as in reverse appliqué. Many have sheer overlays of fabric and intense machine and hand embroidery."
