Featured Quilt - The Grace Company Master Award For Traditional Artistry at Houston 2022
It's Christmas so we're featuring, what else, a Christmas quilt! But not just any Christmas quilt, it's one that took home a big award at Houston this year. Merry Christmas by Aki Sakai won The Grace Company Master Award For Traditional Artistry at the
2022 Houston International Quilt Festival. Aki wanted to make a quilt that would bring joy to anyone who sees it. She says, "This is my second Christmas quilt. It took about a year to make this. I made it with the hope that everyone can have a happy Christmas."
As Aki mentions, this is not her first Christmas quilt. Click below to see her first, also titled Merry Christmas, and marvel at the fact that it's done entirely in miniature!

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Inspiration From The Ruins
"Ruins of Roussillon" by Sheila Frampton Cooper
While living in France, Sheila had the
opportunity to visit some really beautiful sites. One of those sites was the Colorado Provençal, which has a village called Roussillon. In Roussillon, they used to mine ochre, with the landscape surrounding it being a lush green and all of the structures having a beautiful ochre color. While Sheila is often inspired by color, she doesn't plan what her piece is going to be, and this quilt was not her usual color palette. Using the colors of Roussillon as her inspiration, Sheila created her quilt. Upon showing the quilt to someone, they said it reminded them of looking down on the ruins of an ancient civilization, and thus the title was born as Ruins of Roussillon.
