We are Midway Through Our 10-week Program

Today, Sally Collins walks you through the benefits of using templates and how to create them, including those you’ll need for unusually sized pieces and shapes. Plus, thread is getting so expensive these days, want to learn how to save it? Julie Cefalu shows you how.
Sally Collins says that templates give you the opportunity to create quality and custom work. It's no longer about using cereal boxes, she describes the tools you need and shows you How to Cut Precise Templates (technique) - watch Show 1602 - Click on Chapter 2. Sally has many reasons for using templates, can she persuade you to give them a try?

And, Julie Cefalu shows you two ways to start piecing your fabrics without tangling your thread or mangling your fabric. Learn the The Benefits of Using a Thread Saver (tip). Are you already using this method?

One of the best parts of Transform Your Quilting is that you can join in anytime and go back and re-watch any of the tips or techniques. Just make sure you are a Star Member. Then, open your newsletters and follow the links. It’s fast learning and lots of fun.
Featured Quilt - Another Multiple Award-Winning Quilt

A Summer Christmas, by Mariya Waters and Gina Perkes-Tidwell, just won another award, First Place Large Quilts - Movable at AQS QuiltWeek Grand Rapids 2022. This quilt is no stranger to ribbons as it also won Best of Show at Pacific International Quilt Festival XXX in 2021.

Mariya writes, "A Summer Christmas was made to celebrate Christmas in the Southern Hemisphere where our flowers bloom brightly in the heat of our summer. It was an international collaboration between me in Melbourne, Australia and Gina, the quilter, in Arizona, USA. It has been hand and machine appliquéd equally across the surface using whole unit turned edge appliqué inspired by Victoriana and Greek design."

Watch Rayna Gillman Make Orphan Blocks Sing
When Discarded Blocks Become The Bell of the Ball

Rayna Gillman loves working with scraps and abandoned blocks as a jumping-off point for inspiration. She loves the "What If" moments that can lead to a winner... or sometimes a loser.

In our latest show, she and Ricky look at orphaned blocks that became something better and tackle a couple of scrap units that may or may not ever be a winner. It’s a segment filled with laughter and we learn why Rayna didn’t have such a great time at Brownie camp one year.

Learn from Rayna, and Ricky, by watching Upcycling Orphan Blocks and Improv Strip Piecing with Rayna Gillman | How To do Y-Seams with Ricky Tims.

Textile Talks: Contemporary Curves by Audrey Esarey
Audrey's Awesome Arcs Are On Display

You may have seen Audrey Esarey's quilts featured on our site a time or two. There is a reason for that, as her quilts, often circular in nature, are stunning examples of the Modern Quilt movement. In this Wednesday's Textile Talk, you will get a glimpse of those quilts and more as the National Quilt Museum presents Contemporary Curves, "a collection of quilts exploring circular shapes and dynamic, high-contrast colors made by Audrey Esarey. The quilts featured in this exhibit are primarily from three ongoing series: Radial Quilts, Watercolor Quilts, and Aura Quilts."

Register today and watch when this episode airs this Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at 2 PM EDT.

"The Coffee Break" by Leslie Tucker Jenison

Here is The Coffee Break by Leslie Tucker Jenison. Leslie had this to say about the inspiration for her quilt, "The Coffee Break refers to a long-running email conversation with my friend and teaching partner, Jamie Fingal. When I see “coffee break” in the subject line, I know to get my cuppa and put my feet up, because it will be a long conversation in print. We discuss business items, personal issues…you name it; the coffee break has been a long-running habit which is often more of a lifeline."
