Featured Quilt - Amazing Hand Quilting on a Nearly 200 Year Old Quilt

Captn' John saw this Applique Rose Quilt at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles while on a recent visit. He was amazed by the tiny and intricate hand quilting. Unfortunately, the quiltmaker is unknown (remember to label your quilts people). Take a look and see if you are amazed too.

Our Brand New Show with Maday Delgado Debuts Today!

See Sustainable Art Made with Hand Stitching and Improv Piecing

Maday Delgado’s passion for taking care of the environment is directly related to her colorful and dynamic quilts made using upcycled fabrics combined with hand stitching. She considers herself to be a visual storyteller who loves to embrace slow, mindful stitching mixed with bold color choices and freeform shapes. Learn how to work with sourced fabrics, hand stitching, and how to sew free form cut, no pin blocks. Plus, Ricky gets in on the fun too and shares helpful tips for using scraps to build fabric that can become the background for art quilts or cut into units for traditional 9-patch blocks.

“A New Deal for Quilts” Exhibit on Display at the International Quilt Museum

See How Quiltmaking Got People Through Tough Times

From the International Quilt Museum (IQM): "Have you seen “A New Deal for Quilts” yet? Set aside some time to join us before the exhibition closes on April 20! With quilts from the IQM collection as well as historical photos and documentary sources, this exhibition tells the stories of quiltmakers in the United States and how they coped with the hard times of the Great Depression. It also explores how quiltmaking was used by government agencies as an emblem of American perseverance and frugality, and to promote new vocational and homemaking skills for women."

The exhibit will be on display from now through April 20, 2024 at the International Quilt Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: All Kinds of Triangular Fun

"45 Degrees" by Cathy Perlmutter

Cathy's 45 Degrees quilt is the type of work that she is doing now that features, as the title would suggest, 45 degree triangles. These triangles can be played with in a similar improv way to 60 degree triangles, with Cathy finding the 60 degree ones to be more liberating in terms of design while the 45 degree ones can be a little bit more complicated.
