Deborah's Quilts Tell Stories and She Wants To Share Them
For artist, Deborah Fell growing up in a low-income family on the south side of Chicago, IL, meant being placed in lower-level classes at school. However, her undeniable talent on a writing assignment was recognized by a teacher, which led to her transfer to Advanced Placement English, where she excelled and put her on a path to earning a PhD. As a young mother, taking her first art quilt class with Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry shifted her artistic path and enabled her to use art as a way to process and cope with world events. Deborah considers her work to be visual narratives, and we view and learn about some of them in our latest show.

"Fashionista Quilter" by Kathryn Pellman
Fashionista Quilter is part of Kathryn's Angry Women / Not-So-Angry Women series of quilts, with this quilt falling into the not-so-angry category. She says, "Fashionista Quilter is a celebration of my love of printed fabric, traditional quilts and sewing. The blocks were “pieced” using a glue stick; the raw edges with their frays and loose threads are deliberate. Names of traditional blocks are quilted on her legs."
