Featured Quilt - The Houston Quilt Festival Reveals Another Quilt

The 2024 edition of the Houston International Quilt Festival is less than a month away, and the good people over there have decided to reveal another quilt that will be displayed at the show to whet your appetite. Behold Helen Hardin: Between Two Worlds by Karen G. Fisher, which will be part of the "One Quilter's Journey from the Middle Ages to the Stars" Exhibit (Sponsored by Brother International).

Karen says of her quilt, "Helen Hardin was a brilliant young half Pueblo, half Anglo painter from New Mexico. Her work was in museums across the country before she was even in her 20s. My family owned one of her paintings, and I made this quilt to commemorate her for the HERStory exhibit which celebrated famous women after 1920, and the XIX Amendment."

Okan Arts: Quilt Nihon In The Pacific Northwest

Japanese Quilts Have Made The Journey to Washington

Patricia Belyea of Okan Arts recently got to do something she's always wanted to do but was never in the right place at the right time. What did she do? She got to view the Quilt Nihon Exhibition at the Pacific Northwest Quilt & Fibers Arts Museum in La Conner, WA. Why is this a big deal? Well, Quilt Nihon takes place in Japan every two years, so to see these quilts outside of the show was an absolute joy for Patricia and she wanted to share that enjoyment with all of you. Take in some of the quilts she saw, and learn about about this amazing international event.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Super "Self-Portrait"

"Self-Portrait: My Hair" by Deborah Fell

Deborah says of her quilt, "Collaged with upholstery scraps, handmade paper, and photo transfers of my actual hair, this piece is meant to be ambiguous. From afar it seems as if it is a giant white swirl. Upon closer look, my face peeks out from behind my sleeve and divulges the glorious white, curly hair, my secret super power."
