Featured Quilt - Many Pyramids That Are Now Complete
A Thousand Pyramids for Mary Beth's Couch was featured as part of Teresa Duryea Wong's exhibit, Finally Finished by Teresa Duryea Wong (Sponsored by Taylor Seville Originals), at the 2024 Houston International Quilt Festival.
The exhibit was described as, "Eleven gorgeous antique quilt tops were lovingly quilted by Teresa Duryea Wong on a modern longarm quilting machine with hand-guided techniques and no computers. The story of each maker is lost to time, but her quilt is now finally finished. These objects span decades - even a century - and Wong has created a 21st-century narrative for each quilt by naming it in honor of her ancestors and family."
As for this quilt in particular, Teresa said, "This classic pieced quilt is filled with so many surprise prints. When I first saw it, I knew this was a great one to finally finish. I quilted each triangle with an original free-motion design. it is named after my mom, Mary Beth Duryea, who loved to decorate. She would have loved to have this quilt draped over her living room couch."

Get to Know Brandy Maslowski, the Quilter on Fire |
|
|
|
A Bright and Blazing Quilter
Brandy Maslowski, also known as the Quilter on Fire, followed in the family tradition by pursuing a career as a firefighter after completing her university degrees. Yet her love of making never faded—a passion sparked in her late teens when she worked as a sample maker for a local craft store. By 2020, she had stepped away from firefighting to focus all her energy on a growing weekly podcast audience, the creation of art quilts, and becoming a certified quilt judge.
We loved meeting Brandy and learning all about her journey in the quilting world, and so did our members:
"LOVED the show, and really enjoyed getting to “meet” Brandy. So easy to listen to on her podcast and I’m a fan. Of course, I LOVE “all things” The Quilt Show offers to us quilters. Thanks so much!!" - Kathy D.

Textile Talks: Archeology of the Body - Artwork by R. Mertens |
|
|
|
"Work That Examines the Body as an Archaeological Site"
Presented by SAQA: "R. Mertens triangulates between the poetics of electricity, the production of the hand and artifacts of eschatology. In his Artwork, he explores the temporal nature of Fibers and Sound focused on a type of saudade that the writer Manuel de Melo states as “a pleasure you suffer, an ailment you enjoy,” or the melancholic joy of knowing that nothing lasts forever. Specifically, “Archeology of the Body" is a series of work that examines the body as an archaeological site. What do we hold in our bodies that we chose to remember and what are the things we can't forget?"
Register today and watch when this episode airs this Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 2 PM EDT.

"Glorious & Free" by Brandy Maslowski
Brandy considers Glorious & Free to be one of the most honorable quilts she has ever made. Originally, Brandy issued a challenge to her podcast listeners to create a quilt. When a friend of hers called and asked what quilt she would be making for the challenge, Brandy realized that she should probably make a quilt as well. That quilt became Glorious & Free, which depict the shadow of a soldier in the background, the brown fabric, with a maple leaf overlaid on the top in red. Glorious & Free is meant to honor the Canadian Armed Forces, with the title being a quote from the Canadian national anthem. This quilt has hung all across Canada in their support centers for PTSD and for soldiers.
