Featured Quilt - Quilt Your "Blues" Away
Recently we spoke with Paula Nadelstern at the 2024 Houston International Quilt Festival about the quilts she had featured in her exhibit, Paula Nadelstern: Patternista (Sponsored by Benartex and eQuilter.com). One of those quilts was Kaleidoscopic XVII: Caribbean Blues, which was created in 1997 and is part of her continuing series of kaleidoscope quilts. This quilt was created in response to her getting through a very strenuous part of her life and coming out the other side to celebrate with a vacation.
She says, "Eight months after the broken ankle, the book deadline, the college applications, and the record-breaking New York City winter, we fell side-by-side along the edge of Cancun and watched how blues change into other blues."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Handy Hexagon Quilt

"Grammy Squares" by Lynn Wilder
Lynn says of Grammy Squares, "What could be more fun than creating a quilt that looks like one of your Grandmother's crocheted afghans without ever picking up a crochet hook! I love working with hexagons, and this design gave me lots of practice with hexagons and Y-seams. I also love English paper piecing, so I included bouquets of flowers in two of the corners. This quilt was a fabulous stash buster. Also it was fun combining many different fabrics, from reproduction fabric to more modern prints."

Iron Out The Kinks
Nobody's perfect at everything, and that's okay. It takes time to learn a new skill and become good at it. As they says, "Practice makes perfect", and we here at The Quilt Show want to help you practice those new techniques you want to learn. Irons aren't always used literally, and we want to be your metaphorical iron to help you smooth out any problems you may be having. |
