Featured Quilt - 15 Years In The Making

We all have that UFO that's been sitting in our sewing rooms for a while just waiting to be finished. But what's the longest time you've waited to finish one of those up? Karen Hodges just may have you beat, as it took her FIFTEEN years to complete her quilt, Western Sun. Using a quilt design from the Butternut and Blue book by Barbara Brackman and Karla Menaugh, Karen's quilt was featured as part of the 25 Years of Scrap Exhibit (Sponsored by Brother) at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2024.

She says, "The blocks from this exchange sat in the closet for 15 years because I thought I needed 276 Flying geese. Once I realized I only needed 18, I was determined to finish. There are whole, half, and quarter blocks as well. This is one of my husband's favorite quilts."

Texas Tech: Lighting the New Year with the Lantern Quilt

In Case You Missed It

Last Sunday we featured the latest article from the Museum of Texas Tech University, which was about Lantern Quilts. Due to some technical difficulties on our end, not everyone got the chance to see the article. We have remedied the issue on our end and would like to re-feature it today so that everyone who would like to can read it.

In the article, you will learn about various Lantern Quilts, including Hubert Ver Mehren's design and another made by Florence Love around 1935-1945 which was donated to the museum.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Quilt For The Little "Animal" in Your Life

"Juvenile Jungle" by Cyndi McChesney

Juvenile Jungle came about because Cyndi received a gift as Ricky's administrative assistant from P&B Textiles. On the phone with them one time, they wanted to know how to send fabrics to The Quilt Show. Cyndi informed them how and the person on the line asked if she liked fabric. She said of course and was sent a box full of fat quarters. With lots of red, gray, and black fabric in hand, she knew exactly what to pair them with when she saw the central panel featured in Juvenile Jungle. There are 25 different grays, 25 different reds, and 25 different blacks used throughout the quilt.
