A Quilt That's "Open" For All, Barbara Black LIVE: Getting Started on the 2025 BOM, Christmas Magic at BERNINA in Switzerland, "Real Clothes, Real Lives" Exhibit - Curator Confidential, In The Store - Santa Socks Kits, A Puzzle With "Boats"

Weekend Fun - December 20, 2024

Featured Quilt - "Open" and Available to All

Wednesday's LIVE, Alex featured Lilo's interview with Anna Maria Parry, who had an exhibit of stunning quilts at the 2024 Houston International Quilt Festival entitled Anna Maria's Blueprint Quilts. This exhibit featured Anna's quilts that showed "the essence of how she designs quilts based on overall structural features." One such quilt was Open Borders, which was made as an expression of Anna's desire to travel and reach out at a time in which she couldn't.

She says, "I designed and started this quilt while waiting for borders to open between countries during the pandemic. I used fabrics that were mostly collected during my 2018 teaching tour in Australia. It felt like a love letter to travel and hope to get on the other side of the isolation to see the world again. The X formation inspired the design, but I used more layering of piece sizes and appliqué."

Barbara Black LIVE: Block Of the Month 2025 - Laurel Ridge by Lynn Wilder

Getting Started on "Laurel Ridge"

Barbara Black gets you all the details about Laurel Ridge, the exclusive 2025 Block of the Month Quilt designed by Lynn Wilder for members of The Quilt Show. This is going to be a great quilt and a fun ride. There will be videos by Lynn, advice by Barbara, and a story about the packhorse librarians.

Barbara is LIVE TODAY, December 20, 2024 @ 10am PST, 1pm EST, and 6pm London time. All classes are recorded so they can be viewed later.

PLEASE NOTE: After December 31, 2024 The Quilt Show will no longer be able to provide you the patterns for our 2024 Block Of the Month, Pick a Petal designed by Jen Kingwell. We strongly recommend downloading all of the patterns before then to avoid any issues that might arise after the first of the year. To make this easier for you, we have a single convenient file that contains all 12 months' patterns.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Delightful Quilt at "Dawn"

"Boats at Dawn" by Bonnie Langenfeld

Using a variegated fabric that reminded her of the sun hitting the edge of the water, and a photograph that someone gave her that she adapted to fit her needs, Bonnie created her Boats at Dawn quilt. The boats themselves are not pieced, they are either fused or glued, and a lot of individual cutwork was done of each side, back, and seat of the boats to get the shadows in the right places.
