Join San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles for a conversation with Helen Remick and Samantha Shorey, key members of the NASA-inspired Core Memory Quilt project for a Textile Talk!

Presented by the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles:

The Core Memory Quilt is an interactive textile that tells the story of the women who made the computer hardware for the Apollo moon missions. Art quilter Helen Remick sewed the quilt using fabric, conductive thread and a programmable circuit board. Each square on the quilt contains a historical recording of the Apollo engineers, which can be played (and tweeted) when touched. Inspired by the woven wires of core memory artifacts, the quilt shows the intricate beauty of these technologies and the ingenuity of those who made them. The quilt was produced through a collaborative project at the Tactile and Tactical Design Lab at the University of Washington, under the direction of Dr. Daniela Rosner and with the participation of Samantha Shorey and Brock Craft.
