"Flora Australis" a quilt by Denise Griffiths

Flora Australis by Denise Griffiths was featured in the In Full Bloom exhibit at the Houston Quilt Festival in 2018.

Denise found inspiration in the flora of the Australian Bush with its abundance of flowers and bushes. Hand embroidered, machine pieced, appliquéd, painted and quilted, she added one more little touch to give her colorful flowers more impact. To contrast the wonderful bursts of color throughout, Denise used "a background of black and white to make the colors pop more."

It is so helpful & enjoyable to see with such clarity the detail on the close-up photos & all the beautiful machine stitching that you have done, Denise! The colors are so lively and bright. Wondered what the overall size of this stunning quilt...

Wondered what the overall size of this stunning quilt might be. The Australian flora and fauna has always fascinated me. I bet Australia provides an endless source of inspiration for you!

I find the variety of plant life (and animal life) fascinating and love the way color is used in quilts from down under!
