WICKED Costumes: Design and Build

The movie musical event of the year is almost here, as the film based on the hit broadway musical Wicked makes its debut next month. Sure to be filled with amazing costumes of its own, we're going to step back in time and show you how some of the costumes were made for the musical itself. See what happens when a new actor takes over a part and a brand new costume needs to be created.

From the WICKED The Musical Youtube Page:

"Get an exclusive look at the Costume Edition, and follow the construction of a new Madame Morrible costume, from bolt to Broadway."

The Wicked film will debut in theaters beginning Friday November 22, 2024.

Wicked the Musical is currently playing on Broadway in New York City at the Gershwin Theatre, now celebrating its 21st year of performances there.

If only they could have told us this in high school. My life would have been completely different. What a great career.

Find a local theatre or a high school theatre that needs sewists. Find an historical reenactment group that needs more "suttlers". Madrigal groups need knowledgable sewists who know how to handle boned bodices and 8-yard pleated upholstery...

Madrigal groups need knowledgable sewists who know how to handle boned bodices and 8-yard pleated upholstery fabric skirts. I've done all of these and have loved every minute, from designing/creating an Elvis for a nearly 7-foot-tall high schooler, to transforming a wheelchair bound first grader into a "real" mermaid....the opportunity for creating "magic" is out there, go have fun!

You probably still can. Small community theatres are always looking for volunteers to make costumes.
